Now is the time to highlight issues in podiatry. Let's use the election to get our message across

Redefining Membership Categories

A meeting of Executive Officers of all the Member Associations and the APodC has supported the view that membership categories need to be redefined.

The meeting was held in Adelaide on July 29. Executive Officers told the meeting there have been requests from members for a more flexible approach to membership, to accommodate maternity leave and part-time working arrangements.

At the moment, most Member Associations have a full-time and a student category. There was a general roundtable agreement to adopt six new membership categories. The Executive Officers will now seek agreement from their boards.

The APodC will urge voters to ‘vote with their feet’, in a media release to be distributed to all major media outlets around the country.

The media release will go out early next week, and will call on voters to pressure their local candidates to do more to increase the number of Medicare funded podiatry visits for at risk patients with diabetes from five to at least twelve.

The APodC will send out the media release and complementary key messages to Member Associations, so that members can amend the release and send it to their local media outlets.

The APodC aims to put out at least one media release per month, which can be used by members to gain local media exposure.

If you don’t receive the information, please contact APodC Communication Director, Kylie Johnston

The very latest information about the 2011 Australasian Podiatry Conference

The APodC office has noticed a sharp rise in enquiries about the upcoming Australasian Podiatry Conference.

Members are contacting us asking to be kept up to date about the conference, which is set to welcome a variety of international and national speakers.

Keep an eye out for the next issue of the Podiatry Bulletin, which will include a formal call for papers, inviting abstracts for oral or poster presentations.

The conference website is under construction and will include a facility and guidelines for the online submission of abstracts.

All accepted abstracts will be published in hard copy and online as a supplement in Journal of Foot and Ankle Research and therefore searchable using PubMed.

The theme of the conference, Setting the Pace, reflects the role of the conference in leading podiatry evidence and best practice.
